Test management for the Austrian federal railway (ÖBB)

Comprehensive test management was an important pillar for the commissioning of the various routes and sub-projects.

Quattron engineering (NEXTRAIL GmbH) is responsible for the entire test management of the ÖBB. The tasks include creating test specifications as well as carrying out tests in a laboratory setting and in the field.

In addition, the test results are analysed, evaluated and documented for sub-projects, which are divided into the following main areas: support of SIGNON Deutschland GmbH in extension of project support for ETCS Level 2, block compaction for new lines Vienna–St Pölten, ETCS Level 2 ÖBB – Unterinntal and ETCS Level 2 ÖBB – freight rail bypass St Pölten

Key areas of service

  • Support with project planning, scheduling and coordination
  • Administration of the freight rail bypass planning documents, checking freight rail bypass project planning and evaluating log files
  • Change request (CR) and claim management
  • Operational technical coordination and preliminary work for technical committee on anomalies (TGA)
  • Supporting the process for project-specific ETCS safety-relevant application conditions
  • Creation of a rough plan (balise plan) as a specification for the ETCS manufacturer with subsequent detailed planning
  • Review of the manufacturer’s design planning, project planning and route atlas
  • Acceptance measurement (with subsequent inspection of the track file)
  • Test specifications for acceptance tests, both specific and generic
  • Monitoring of tests in the laboratory and on the tracks, as well as analysis of test results and deviations
  • Creation of reports on acceptance runs
