BOS fixed-line strategy and planning in the context of IP migration in the BOS digital radio network

Migration of the BOS digital radio system to a broadband radio network

The migration of the BOS digital radio system to a broadband radio network involves transitioning all network layers of the access network for the TETRA base stations to an IP-enabled broadband platform. quattron supports this process by providing expert strategic advice, network planning and guidance on the implementation of this network migration.

For almost two decades now, quattron has been supporting the roll-out and operation of the BOS digital radio network in Germany in the roles of consultant, expert and project manager. The company’s teams are responsible for managing the roll-out of around a quarter of the nationwide network and have been providing continuous support to the authorised state authorities over many years with regard to network operation and fixed-line connectivity.

Furthermore, the development of strategies to increase the sovereignty of the internal administration towards industry and mobile network operators is being driven forward. An integral part of this is the negotiation and management of contracts and being responsible for equipping properties with BOS digital radio

As part of our consulting services, quattron engineers support the network migration in the security-critical access networks of the BOS digital radio with the following focal points:

  • Preparation of nationwide network strategy and technology planning
  • Determination of cost frameworks for investment and operating expenses for IP-based networks
  • Preparation of quantity structures and service specifications for the tendering of active technology as well as network and connection services on the basis of fiber optic and radio relay systems
  • Supporting the client in the tendering process in accordance with German VSVgV (Regulation on the Award of Public Security and Defense Contracts
  • Answering the questions of bidders, providing technical and professional support to the client during contract negotiations and in the preparation of award decisions
  • Checking the design and implementation planning of the general contractor
  • Structural inspections and testing of installers and service providers at the BOS sites
  • Monitoring construction progress and the quality of network construction
  • Supporting the client during commissioning and in the site-based migration from PDH/SDH technology to IP infrastructures
  • Coordination of network implementation in the area of fiber optic and radio relay network components
  • Monitoring the connection of the new network components to the network management of the agency authorized for BOS digital radio
  • Supporting our clients with project documentation, risk management, and the organizational anchoring of the new transmission systems in the operational processes
  • Project management and PMO for network roll-out
  • Monitoring project progress from planning through to commissioning
  • Quality assurance of site-specific radio and as-built plans
  • Network optimisation of the BOS digital radio network based on predictions and actual data

Our engineers are security checked and work professionally in the areas of high-security networks and critical infrastructures due to the security-critical nature of these consulting tasks
